About the Job:
CME is looking for an experienced HSE Manager (m/f) to lead the Health, Safety & Environment function on a major Data Centre project in Portugal. This site-based role will focus on promoting a strong HSE culture, ensuring compliance with legal, client, and CME requirements, and supporting the safe delivery of complex MEP works in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a robust Health, Safety and Environmental framework supporting safe project execution;
- Champion behavioral safety, environmental awareness and continuous improvement across all project participants;
- Ensure project risk controls, work authorization systems and environmental measures remain effective throughout delivery;
- Support operational teams through inspections, audits, coaching and proactive risk management activities;
- Provide oversight of critical construction activities with elevated safety or environmental exposure;
- Analyze HSE performance, manage investigations and support the implementation of lessons learned and corrective actions.
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, with a recognized professional HSE qualification aligned with construction industry standards and Portuguese regulations;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in HSE roles within construction, engineering, industrial, mission-critical, Data Centre, pharmaceutical, or large-scale MEP environments. Strong knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems, industry best practices, audits, risk management, and corrective action processes;
- Proven experience managing subcontractor HSE performance, leading incident and environmental event investigations, conducting audits, reviewing risk assessments, and promoting zero-harm and environmental awareness cultures;
- Strong communication, leadership, planning, reporting, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence teams at all levels in multidisciplinary and multicultural project environments;
- Strong command of English, minimum C1 level, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
